Mel Bochner is one of the major protagonists of Concept Art, having since 1980 employed his works as Wall Paintings for the creation of true and proper installations in their exhibition venues. ented at Kunstmuseum Luzern in 1986, the catalogue was enriched by a brochure with a German translation of the texts (including an interview between Charles Stuckey and Mel Bochner) as well as with an introduction by Martin Kunz. Mel Bochner is to be seen as one of the most important and original of the representatives of Concept Art, but at the time was little seen in Europe, owing not to any question of the value of his work but as the result of unresolved differences between a number of European galleries and the New York Sonnabend Gallery which represented him. Heedless of this dispute between art dealers, this catalogue offers documentation of a rare, initial retrospective of this artist’s work at a European museum.
